The European 5G pioneer award is now open for submission of projects that have adopted 5G technology in their products or services. The deadline for submission is 21 November 2018.
The European 5G Pioneer Award, announced by Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel earlier this year, is now open for submissions. This award is an initiative organised by the European Commission and the GSMA, which represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, to highlight the role of pioneering organisations in Europe that are adopting 5G technology. The deadline for entries is 21 November 2018, and the award will be presented at the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) ceremony at the Mobile World Congress 2019.
Eligibility criteria
This award is open to all companies, organisations, municipalities and partnerships that have launched fully-fledged commercial or pre-commercial 5G service initiatives in the EU at city, regional, or other geographic level. The product or service submitted must be available by December 2019. Projects should be unique, have measurable quantitative and qualitative evidence of their success and impact, and should benefit citizens, businesses and society at large.
Purpose
The goal of the award is to further the strategic objectives set out by the Commission in its “5G Action Plan for Europe”, which aims to ensure early 5G deployment in Europe. The award complements the work of the 5G Observatory launched by the Commission in February 2018 to track the progress of the 5G Action Plan and enable the Commission, in cooperation with EU countries and other stakeholders, to implement it fully.
